It is known that the Mala or rosary used throughout India, and that it has spread throughout the world, both within the Hindu religion and in other religions, has 108 beads.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This number \"108\" is a sacred number, for several reasons. These reasons are mathematical and metaphysical (like mathematics itself). The ancient Indians were excellent mathematicians. There was no subject in the field of Algebra and Geometry, which has not been studied by them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This number is the product of precise mathematical operations, for example, if we multiply 1 in the first power, by 2 in the second power, this result by 3 in the third power, we have 108. this is because the product of 1 in 1, is 1, and of 2 in 2 is 4, and 3 in 3 is 27, so 1 x 4 x. 27 = 108.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Perhaps the most direct influence of the number 108 is not only mathematical, but sacred with the phonemes of the Sanskrit \"alphabet\" and the division of the cosmos, of time and space. In turn, the Sanskrit alphabet has 54 letters or phonemes that are called masculine, and 54 that are called feminine, being known as Siva and Sakti, respectively, and that add up to 108. There are a series of other placements that would fill many books . Therefore, these 54 crossings, being male and female, result in the number 108. Therefore, this number 108 defines Sri Yanta, as well as the human body itself.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Likewise, the number nine is considered a sacred number for Hindus, and if we add the number 108, as follows 1 + 0 + 8, we have the number 9, which multiplied by 12, will also result in 108.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This is due to the science of numerology, in which each number and sequence, as well as arrangements, have a profound meaning, in addition to the objectivity that ordinary mathematics intends to give.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Heart chakra<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/h2>

The heart chakra, or Anahata's energy vortex, has intersecting lines. The Vedas say that there are 108 energy lines in the heart chakra, where the Paramatma is residing. It is from the heart chakra that the yogi attains the enlightenment of the Sahasrara or chakra of the head self, whose energy is carried through the central channel or Sushumna to the crown of fulfillment in God.\u00a0<\/p>

Marmas Points<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/h2>

In the subtle body there are points of energy capture. These points are called Marmas, and are like points of intersection over the Nadis or channels of energy distribution. The Vedic texts state that there are 108 Marmas over the body, and that they have reflections on the physical body and on the various vital functions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The time<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/h2>

Time is said to have 108 feelings, which are 36 in the past, 36 in the present, and 36 in the future. This relation of the psychology of the perception of time, in the finite world, is considered an extension of Akasha.\u00a0<\/p>

Astrology<\/h2>

Vedic or Jyotish astrology considers the 9 planets visible, as well as the 12 houses of the constellations, called Manshas or Chandrakalas. The ratio of 9 x 12 is equal to 108. The word Chandrakala is composed of Chandra = moon, and Kalas, divisions of time. The diameter of the sun is 108 times larger than that of the Earth.\u00a0<\/p>

Sri Krishna, the Supreme Lord, protagonist of the Bhagavad-gita, had 108 Gopis or fixed servants, and 108 thousand wives. This is transcendental and cannot be compared with the things of worldly passion and foul levity.\u00a0<\/p>

Miscellaneous relations<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>

The number 108 when divided into fractional portions, has 54, 36, 27, and nine. Then there are Bags or rosaries with these subdivisions, and the devotee makes the necessary arrangements to complete the 108 laps.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Islam<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>

In Islam, the number 108 is used to represent God.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Sikh<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>

In the Sikh tradition, the number 108 is present in their wool blankets, which have 108 knots in sequence, in addition to those in their japa bags.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Chinese\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

Chinese Buddhists, due to the notorious influence of India, use suitcases of 108 beads, which they call Su-chu, dividing this Mala into 3 divisions of 36 beads.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Soul Stages<\/span>\u00a0<\/h2>

The Scriptures say that the soul has 108 stages in its journey over the Earth, and if it does not reach liberation, it must return to the bosom of Paramatma and return later for a new journey of 108 lives.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Meru<\/strong><\/p>

In a Mala or rosary, there is a larger stone called Meru. It is not part of the 108 accounts in a row, and marks the beginning and end of a Mala de Japa (chant of the Mantra).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Pit\u00e1goras\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

For this Greek philosopher, who drank the wisdom of Indian mathematicians, on trips he made to the Indian continent, as we can easily see in his biography, he said that the number 9 was the limit for all numbers. All other names exist and come from the same, that is, from 0 to 9, and with these numbers you can make an infinite amount, in their different arrangements.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In Hinduism 108 is the number of Krishna's Gopis in His pastimes 108 are the sacred sites for the Vaishnavas 108 are the Mala accounts for Japa 108 are the Upanishads 108 are the Divyadeshes or sacred Tirthas, from India to Nepal. 108 are the sacred waters installed in Muktinath, Nepal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Sanatana-dharma<\/span>\u00a0<\/h2>

Certainly, the conclusion of what is the sacred number 108 is due to the Vedas, and the way the texts and Vedic metrics are writing the sacred teachings of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There is a book written by Khurana, which gives explanations that mirror these Vedic metrics. He says, a circle has 360 degrees, which when multiplied by 60 results in 21,600 minutes in a circle.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The number 60 comes from 60 Ghatis, which are sacred. A Ghati is equal to 24 minutes, 60 Ghatis is 24 hours, the division of a day. A Ghati is divided into 60 parts or Palas. So, these Palas multiplied by 60 result in 3,600. This multiplier value by 60, for a Pala contains 60 Vipalas, again results in 21,600. Half of this value is the day phase, and the other half is the night phase. So, 21,600 divided by 2, results in 10,800.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For practical purposes, 108 is used. This rhythm helps to control the rhythm of time, as well as of space, remaining in harmony with nature and the way it is regulated.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A hobby of Srimad Bhagavatam and Tantra Shastra<\/span><\/b>\u00a0
There is a Vedic story, called \"108 Pithas\" or sacred places, where there is a pastime of Lord Siva and Sati devi. This story is complete in the 4 Canto do Bhagavata-purana.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The hobby tells that Lord Siva was always in deep meditation. His asceticism was generating great heat over the universe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Consequently, the whole existence was in great danger, and Lord Brahmaa (His father), intervened before Maa Shakti Devi, the mother of the universe, to use His power in order to seduce Lord Siva and remove Him from Your position. So Maa Sakti agreed, and that she would be born as Sati, the daughter of Sri Daksha.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Lord Siva had been very impressed by Sati's asceticism, and by His extraordinary beauty. Then He returned to human form and married Her. Years later, at a party, Sati Devi's father insulted Lord Siva. Sati was so humiliated that she went into deep meditation in order to immolate herself.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Lord Siva has broken His heart. He reached the fire sacrifice site, and tried to interfere by grabbing Sati's body, taking it to heaven. But as he did this, 108 pieces of Sati Devi's body fell and spread over the Earth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

There were 108 pieces, which made the places where they fell entirely sacred. Since this time these places have been adored and a source of constant pilgrimage.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Remembering<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>

For those who use japamala with 108 beads, only one lap is done reciting the mantras.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For those who use japamala of 54 beads, it is done round trip (2 \u00d7 54 = 108) reciting the mantras.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For those who use japamala of 27 beads, it is done round trip twice (4 \u00d7 27 = 108) reciting the mantras.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We know why 108 is a magic number, so use and abuse the energy !!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

ALWAYS consecrate your japamala to a being of light that you have more affinities with, and whenever you do your mantras or prayers, ask that being of light to activate the mantras in your being.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
